--------------------------------
WHAT IS THE KILLER?
--------------------------------
The Killer is a fully accessible, online multiplayer audio game. You spawn
into a shared world with other players, pick your weapons, fight (or team up),
drive vehicles, take over bases, earn money, and survive against other players,
AI enemies, robots and zombies. Everything is driven by 3D positional sound, so
you play entirely by ear with your screen reader or the built in speech.

It is an online game: you connect to a central server, so an internet
connection is required to play.

--------------------------------
REQUIREMENTS
--------------------------------
- Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- A screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, etc.) or the game's built in speech.
- Headphones are strongly recommended - the whole game is 3D audio.
- An internet connection.
- The game sounds pack (sounds.dat). If it is missing the first time you run
the game, you will be offered a download automatically. Do not delete files
from the "lib" folder - they are required (voice chat and other components).

--------------------------------
GETTING STARTED
--------------------------------
1. Launch the game. On first run it checks for updates and, if needed, offers
to download the sounds pack. Let these finish.
2. Create an account or log in from the main menu. Follow the prompts to verify
   your email if asked.
3. From the main menu, connect to the server and join the world.
4. Use the in game menus to choose weapons, buy items and vehicles, manage your
   team, and change settings.

The game updates itself. When a new version is available you will be prompted
before you can play, so you are always on the current client.

--------------------------------
COMMONLY USED CONTROLS
--------------------------------
Note: the in game menus are the authoritative reference for controls, and some
keys change depending on what you are doing (on foot vs. driving a vehicle).
These are the most common:

- Arrow keys: move and turn.
- Space: fire your weapon (or the vehicle's gun when in a vehicle).
- A: check your current ammo.
- Shift + A: hear the wielded weapon's full stats (damage, range, fire rate,
magazine, reload, spread, shield break chance, stun).
- R: repair (when in a vehicle).
- F: scan for nearby players (when in a vehicle).
- K: vehicle key - locate every vehicle you own on the map, even a stolen one.
Press K again to refresh its position.
- Page Up / Page Down: climb and descend in a flying vehicle (aircraft, Raven).
- Y: emotes. Press Y any time to broadcast an emote to players near you. After a
kill, Y opens the taunt menu instead (press Y again to stop a playing taunt).
- T: text chat.
- Apostrophe ('): map chat (heard only by players on your current map).
- Ctrl + Shift + V: voice chat (requires the bundled Opus component).
- Enter / Escape / Tab: navigate menus and confirm/cancel.

--------------------------------
FEATURES
--------------------------------
- Large online world with other real players plus AI: enemies, robots, animals,
  zombies, demons and more.
- Teams: form a team, invite players, and fight together.
- A full arsenal of weapons, from melee (swords, crowbar, bat) to firearms and
heavy explosives (rocket launchers, snipers, and special weapons).
- Bases you can capture, upgrade, shield with metal, and defend.
- An economy: earn TK dollars (coins) and metal from kills and loot, then spend
them in the stores on weapons, items and vehicles.
- Inventory management with multiple display modes (classic, categorized, tabbed
  - choose in settings).
- Special items and gadgets, including a combat suit and teleportation gear.

Vehicles you can buy, drive, share and sell back:
- Bikes for fast ground travel.
- Police car and tank (ground combat vehicles with a crew served gun).
- Aircraft (flies; climb/descend with Page Up/Down).
- The Raven - the top tier heavy sky vehicle (90,000 health, hard hitting
turret). Every seat can fire the vehicle's gun on its own cooldown.
Vehicle health and fuel persist across relogs.

Communication:
- Global text chat, private messages, and same map "map chat".
- Opus voice chat (Ctrl+Shift+V), with an optional "hear myself" self monitor.
- Emotes and post kill taunts that other nearby players can hear.

--------------------------------
TRANSLATIONS / LANGUAGES
--------------------------------
The Killer can be translated into ANY language with a plain text file - no
coding and no rebuilding. This works the same on Windows, macOS and Linux.

The first time you run the game it creates a "languages" folder next to the
game. Inside you will find:
- README_TRANSLATION.txt - a full step by step guide.
- _template.txt - the list of every line the game says, ready to translate.
It fills in automatically as you play, so you never have to hunt the text
  down by hand.
- chinese.txt - a complete example translation you can look at.

Quick start:
1. Copy _template.txt to a file named for your language, e.g. arabic.txt or
spanish.txt, in that same "languages" folder. SAVE IT AS UTF-8 (this matters
for Arabic, Chinese, Russian, accented letters, and so on).
2. Type your translation on the right of the [=] on each line. Lines you leave
blank simply stay in English, so you can translate a little at a time.
3. Keep the %0, %1 placeholders - the game fills those in (numbers, names).
4. In game, go to Settings - user interface - "Translation language" and pick
your file. It applies right away, no restart needed.

See README_TRANSLATION.txt in the languages folder for the full details.

--------------------------------
SUPPORT, BANS AND ACCOUNTS
--------------------------------
- If you are banned, the game will show your ban ID. Send that exact ID to a
developer to receive an unban code, then relaunch and enter the code.
- Support tickets: notices about your tickets (new replies, closes, reopens)
appear in the in game "tickets" buffer.
- Keep your account email correct so you can verify and recover your account.

--------------------------------
TROUBLESHOOTING
--------------------------------
- "Missing required voice chat component": redownload the game and make sure the
  "lib" folder (opus.dll / libopus.so / libopus.dylib) is intact.
- "The game sounds (sounds.dat) are required": let the game download the sounds
pack, or redownload the full game.
- No sound at launch: check your output device in Audio settings. "Use system
default" follows your operating system's default device.
- Can't connect: confirm your internet connection and that you are on the latest
version (the game will prompt you to update if not).
